Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested Micheal Lenin, a leader of the ongoing Endbadgovernance protests in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Lenin, National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, was taken into custody around 2 am on Monday at his residence in the Apo area of the FCT.
According to Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation, Take It Back Movement, Lenin’s house was raided by the DSS, and he was allegedly assaulted during his arrest. Adenola demanded Lenin’s immediate and unconditional release, stating, “He was arrested and tortured in the presence of his family.”
The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, could not be reached for comment. Lenin had spoken out against President Bola Tinubu’s broadcast on Sunday, calling it “out of touch with reality” and vowing to continue the protests. The arrest has sparked concerns about the government’s response to the ongoing demonstrations.
